About The Walky Dog Plus Bike Leash

"Pull Absorbing - Easy to Use - Fun!" The new & improved WalkyDog Plus® dog bike leash lets you safely take your dog with you on bike rides. Bring your best buddy along for the ride while maintaining stability and control. A bicycle dog leash is a great way to exercise your dog and release energy in a new exciting way - even for the most active of dogs. The WalkyDog Plus features a patented internal spring system that acts like suspension when your dog pulls, meaning less jolts for for you and your dog. Biking your dog has never been easier. The WalkyDog puts you in control while keeping your dog in a safe position next to the bike. Learn how this works in the videos to the left and in our WalkyDog Frequently Asked Questions Section

What Sets The WalkyDog Apart:
  • High-carbon stainless steel construction with solid brass end-cap.
  • Patented one of a kind quick-lock/release mechanism. Allows for quickly attaching and detaching the bar portion in under 1 second for safe storage or use on another bike.
  • Universal adjustable seatpost clamp for mounting on nearly any bike seatpost or frame.
  • Fully adjustable cord length for dogs of different heights.
  • Military Grade 550 paracord for added strength and longevity with adjustable internal spring system for dogs of varying strengths.

Why we love Walky Dog Plus Bike Leash:
  • It's simple to install (with only two bolts) and most dogs take to it right away with little to no training needed.
  • It's a great way to let your dog release energy - especially for dogs that are home alone all day. After all, a well exercised dog is happier, less destructive, and better behaved.
  • Internal springs in the Walky Dog bar provide stretch and pull absorption if your dog should jerk away, making it easier to keep your balance.
  • Unlike a normal leash, the WalkyDog keeps your dog positioned safely to the side of your bike and away from the front tire.
  • You can quickly remove the bar for safe storage or switch it to another bike (spare jaw clamp required) due to the patented quick release. This is only available with the WalkyDog brand.
  • It's easily adjustable to work with dogs of different heights and sizes. The cord can even be replaced making this a product that can be made like new again even after years of use.
  • The WalkyDog is just plain FUN!
Great Dog Biking Accessories

Please note: The Walky Dog Plus is best suited for medium to large dogs. Some heavier or less active breeds, such as bulldogs, may have difficulty with excessive exercise.

Tips and Safety

Learn how to properly use a dog bike leash and decide if it is right for you and your dog/s - Tips & Safety. We are always here to answer any questions you may have. The WalkyDog Plus goes great with a dog harness with padding. We recommend this for the comfort of your dog. Learn more about the WalkyDog and a dog pulling harness.

Will it work for my dog? Will it fit my bike?
The Walky Dog's cord length can easily be adjusted for dogs of varying height, but this dog bike leash is not ideal for very small dogs. We suggest your dog be a year old or more and at least 30 lbs. The Walky Dog bike leash "lead" can be extended to a maximum of 14 inches straight out of the box (this is plenty for most medium to large dogs). If the 14 inch lead isn't enough, you can attach the WalkyDog lead to a leash extension or, you can easily replace the cord used in the WalkyDog with a cord of a custom length that you choose - Watch the video on this page to learn how. This is very easy to do and you can purchase a custom cord at most hardware stores or use some of our Military strength spare cord. The seatpost jaw clamp is meant to be universal and will fit most bike seatposts on the market. We have found it to fit posts with a circumference between 3 1/4 inches to 4 inches. If you have a post smaller than this, you can wrap the post with something or use a shim to fill the space and allow the jaw clamp to tighten. Mounting Instructions and Product Use Guidelines

What the Vet says about the Walky Dog bike leash

Obesity is a growing problem among family dogs. The complications that come along with it such as diabetes and arthritis can lead to high vet bills and ultimately a shorter life for your best buddy. Because we all want are dogs to live long healthy lives, it is important to make sure they get proper exercise. Biking a dog with the Walky Dog along with other regular activity is a great way to help ensure this. "A regular workout is ideal to keep your dog fit - suggests Dr. Salvatore Mistretta, veterinary doctor - and may also turn out to be a chance for both dog and owner to play and have fun together". Unfortunately, not everybody has the possibility to exploit wide open spaces where their dog can be free to roam; more often, one can only dispose of a small city park where regulations impose the use of a leash. Thanks to the WalkyDog bike leash, a new type of pet accessory produced by BICE SRL and specifically developed for biking dog-lovers, today it is easier to allow dogs to exercise. "To trot next to the bike - explains Dr Mistretta - allows dogs to complete an aerobic exercise which beneficially affects not only the weight control, but also the cardio-respiratory system; by riding in the open air, the animal also has the chance to see people and other dogs, which is good from a behavioral standpoint". The use of the WalkyDog is suggested for adult dogs, subject to a complete veterinary examination. Such an examination should verify that the animal doesn't suffer from any cardio-circulatory problem. Elder dogs should also be submitted to cardiologic exams to evaluate the efficiency of their heart. In the case of large breed puppies, it would be better to choose a different workout. Excessive efforts before turning one year old, can facilitate the appearance of pathologies of the osteo-articular system such as hip displaysia - especially among breeds genetically predisposed such as the German shepherd. It is also not suggested to force even healthy and fit dogs to practice any sport activity during the hottest day hours (especially during summer) or after lunches.

Please use common sense when using the Walky Dog and ride at your dog's pace. Never ride faster than your dog is walking! Beware of special cases: for big-size dogs, such as Alaskan Malamutes, the dog's behavior becomes important, too. "The dog" says Dr. Mistretta "should already be used to follow his master at the leash without pulling and he should be equilibrated enough not to be distracted by the surroundings". The Walky Dog Plus - sometimes referred to as Walkie Dog, Wally Dog or mistakenly referred to as the K9 bike jogger - installs in just minutes and is incredibly easy to use. This dog bike leash was specifically developed to allow the biker to guide the dog in complete safety, by keeping both hands tightly gripped on the handlebar. The packaging contains both assembling instructions and some suggestions to adapt the position of both the leash and the biker according to the dog's size. The WalkyDog is a great alternative to bikejoring. People interested in bikejoring or searching for things like: biking with dogs or riding a bike with a dog, will be interested in learning more about the WalkyDog. The WalkyDog is often mistakenly referred to as Walkie Dog, Walkiedog, or Walky Dog.

IMPORTANT NOTE

The WalkyDog bike leash should not be used by children younger than 16 years of age or with a body weight lighter than 80 pounds. Before using the WalkyDog on the public rode, carefully check the Highway Code in your area. The Dog Outdoors (Daughtry Enterprises LLC) declines each and every responsibility that may derive from a use of the product that does not comply with the laws and regulations in force. The WalkyDog bike accessory should not be used by riders carrying children on the bike or by women who are pregnant. It is also not advised to use the WalkyDog with very small dogs - we recommend not less than 30 lbs. Please use your best judgment when using the Walky Dog and remember to always RIDE AT YOUR DOG'S PACE. for more information

WalkyDog Accessories

Below are some of the accessories I use with the WalkyDog. They are not required, but are items I have found helpful over the years and decided to carry.
  • A spare seatpost clamp for a second bike. This makes switching the WalkyDog between bikes effortless.
  • A double-sided spare seatpost clamp for connecting 2 Walky Dog bars from one clamp.
  • A non-restrictive comfortable dog harness – preferably with padding.
  • Something to bring water along for the ride. It is very important to keep your pet hydrated.
  • Paw pad protection. It is important to monitor the wear on your dogs paw pads. They will toughen up over time, but products such as Musher's Secret can help condition, protect, and toughen your dogs pads in all types of environments.
  • Spare cord - Useful to have in case you ever need to replace the standard cord that comes with the WalkyDog after extended use with a powerful pulling dog. The standard cord won't wear down overnight, but with a powerful puller it may begin to wear down over time - you would notice this happening and be able to change it long before the cord became compromised. Also useful if you want to make your own custom length line. The cord I carry is military strength and tested for 550 lbs.
  • Cooling vests for summertime heat. I strap a large thermos with cool water to my bike and take Parker's cooling vest along for the ride with us. When we take breaks I put on his cooling vest to cool him down.
  • A dog bike trailer. A great way to go on extended rides so your dog can rest when tired. Or you can bring your small dog along for a bike ride in complete safety.
